Opening Sequence, Shot-by-Shot Description

SHOT 1: G. I. JOE HEADQUARTERS - DAY

MUSIC: (instrumental)

A large panel opens up at the front of Joe Headquarters. Duke in a RAM leads a VAMP Mark II, MOBAT, and Slugger as they roll out.

DUKE

Yo Joe!

SHOT 2

MUSIC: (instrumental)

Torch, Ripper, and Buzzer are tearing apart power line supports.

SHOT 3

MUSIC: He'll fight for freedom

The Joes ride into battle in a VAMP Mark II, Thunder in a Slugger, and an APC. Duke leaps over the larger vehicles in his RAM.

SHOT 4

MUSIC: wherever there's trouble.

Buzzer and Ripper ride off in three-wheelers as the tower collapses.

SHOT 5

MUSIC: G. I. Joe is there!

The VAMP Mark II encounters CLAWs and Viper Gliders. Gung-Ho jumps out just as Buzzer and Ripper ride past. They fight, and the abandoned 3-wheelers crash into the screen.

SHOT 6

MUSIC: G. I. Joe! (A real American hero!)

On the river, Grunt launches a bazooka at some Viper Gliders, only to be forced away by Zartan in his Chameleon. Zartan is kicked into the water by Recondo, but Zartan stands back up, and his breastplate fills the screen and glows red.

SHOT 7

MUSIC: G. I. Joe is there! It's G. I. Joe against Cobra the enemy

Zartan's glowing chest becomes the red stripe of the G. I. Joe logo. Flames flare up to form a cobra's hood around the title, "The Revenge of Cobra."

SHOT 8

MUSIC: fighting to save the day!

We are now at the docks where Torch is swinging his acetylene torch around. He dodges a line of fire and runs from its source, a Sky Hawk.

SHOT 9

MUSIC: He never gives up! He's always there! Fighting for

A FANG fires its missiles past the docks toward the ocean only to be blasted by a Dragonfly. The Joe copter loops around to avoid a passing Rattler and flies toward the screen. Wild Bill gives an O.K. sign to the screen.

SHOT 10

MUSIC: freedom over land and air! G. I.

Two Stingers cross paths with Duke's RAM and explode, thanks to a SkyStriker that flies over a hangar.

SHOT 11

MUSIC: Joe! (A real American hero!) G. I. Joe is there!

Cobra SNAKE robots fire on distant Dragonflies and are run over by Clutch in his VAMP Mark II. Clutch fires all four of his missiles and just misses a Water Moccasin. The SHARC surfaces almost a moment later, nearly overturning the Cobra boat, which contains the Baroness and Copperhead.

SHOT 12

MUSIC: G. I. Joe is the code name for America's

Flint punches out one Cobra trooper and throws another one over his shoulder.

SHOT 13

MUSIC: daring, highly trained

Lady Jaye dodges blaster fire and fires her javelin-rifle.

SHOT 14

MUSIC: special mission force. Its purpose:

Lady Jaye's shot destroys a missile launcher next to Destro, just as Freedom flies by.

SHOT 15

MUSIC: to defend human freedom against

Cobra Commander fires from his CLAW, forcing Spirit into a series of flips. Freedom joins Spirit as they chase the enemy.

SHOT 16

MUSIC: Cobra, a ruthless

The Commander now flies over Firefly and Scrap Iron.

SHOT 17

MUSIC: terrorist organization determined to rule

As Firefly and Scrap-Iron prepare a small missile launcher, their operations are disrupted by Mutt, Junkyard, and Blowtorch, who lights up the screen.

SHOT 18

MUSIC: the world. He never gives up.

Storm Shadow sends two throwing stars flying but is knocked off balance by Snake-Eyes in a Falcon Glider. Behind them, Destro, Major Bludd, and a Cobra soldier are retreating.

SHOT 19

MUSIC: He'll stay 'til the fight's won.

Gung-Ho, Roadblock, Duke, and Scarlett lead Clutch's VAMP Mark II, the APC, and several Sky Hawks and Dragonflies, all firing at the retreating Cobras. SkyStrikers roar past them.

SHOT 20

MUSIC: G. I. Joe will dare! G. I. Joe!

Destro, Maj. Bludd, and the Cobra board the Baroness' Water Moccasin at the dock. The Commander's CLAW flies overhead, with another in the distance. Cutter pursues them in the WHALE.

SHOT 21

MUSIC: (A real American hero!)

As the sun sets over the Pacific, the Joes arrive at the dock.

SHOT 22

MUSIC: G. I. Joe!

The previous shot reverses to show the same Joes standing before an American flag, with Rip Cord landing by parachute. Pull back to reveal the Joe logo on a white background underneath the team, which consists of Recondo, Mutt, Junkyard, Flint, Lady Jaye, Rip Cord, Roadblock, Duke, Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, Gung-Ho, Blowtorch, Freedom, Spirit, and Cutter.
